Girls Soccer Update

The Vail Mountain School women’s soccer season is in full swing! The team is thrilled to have higher numbers than they have had in many years, with 36 players on the combined JV and Varsity rosters. With a deep bench, the team has some strong experience, with 12 seniors leading the group. The big numbers on the team and the competitive nature of the season have made it a very exciting spring thus far.

After ten games, the Varsity team has a record of 8-2, and after five games, the JV team has a strong record of 2-2-1 and has improved vastly throughout the season. The most competitive and hard-fought games of the season, which ultimately resulted in losses for the Varsity team, were against Steamboat and Eagle Valley High School. Both Eagle Valley and Steamboat are 4A schools, and the VMS team currently plays up in the 3A League even though we are technically a 2A school. The entire soccer team is very proud to compete in a more competitive league and to be able to challenge ourselves and grow through playing 4A teams.

The team has four games remaining in the regular season, in which they hope to fight for the district championship. The final home game of the season will be against Jefferson Academy on Friday, April 29th. The Jefferson Academy game will also be the “senior night” celebration of the 12 seniors on the team.

Following the Jefferson Academy game, the team will be traveling to play Roaring Fork, Aspen, and Moffat during the week of May 4th. If they can finish out the season’s final games strong, the team will hope to make a run in the state championship tournament.
