Wednesday, September 7, 2022 – Yesterday, both of Vail Mountain School men’s soccer teams earned victories against the Crested Butte Titans, last year’s state championship winners in the 2A league. The Varsity team defeated the Titans 2-0, and the Junior Varsity team won 2-1. It was a fantastic day for Charlie Vidal, who scored both goals for the JV team, including a 1 v 1 in the last minute of the game, putting the Gore Rangers in the lead. Thomas Steele scored Varsity’s first goal, a top right corner shot from midfield. Nolan Kim had two assists during the game, one of which helped Mason Renick score a goal. Renick was named Player of The Game by the coaching staff, who said that he had a “Really strong game against his old team, created a lot of opportunities!” The Varsity goalkeeper Mason Geller had his second shutout of the season, with six saves, leading to an average of 6.4 saves per game. These two wins give the Varsity team a win-loss record of 4-1 so far this season, and Junior Varsity 2-2. The next game for Varsity is an away game on September 9th against the Telluride Miners. Junior Varsity’s next game is on September 13th, a home game against the Basalt Longhorns. Go Gore Rangers!
