Girls Volleyball Update

Volleyball season is coming to an end for both the JV and Varsity teams. As of Wednesday, October 26th, with a 9-9 record, Varsity is ranked 29th in the State for 2A and will be progressing into the postseason.

Captain Lili Tonazzi said, “to keep our playoff spot, we will have to win all three” of their remaining games. Their upcoming games are against 27th-ranked Olathe, 9th-ranked North Fork, and the 45th-ranked 1A team, North Park. Wins in all three of their upcoming games will secure a playoff spot, while a win in 2 of the three will still give them a chance.

“I think we had a rough start, but we’re working on improving our energy and how we act mentally during games,” said senior Sofia Brunner This growth can be seen with wins in four of their last five matches including a 3-0 win over Caprock Academy on Senior Night, where the seniors were honored by their coaches and teammates for their contributions to the team and program. The team is hoping to continue the momentum through the regular season and hopefully into the postseason.

Captain Skye Karsh said, “We need to leave the season as a whole behind and start fresh. The team needs to understand the importance of these upcoming games. Im going to put out my favorite quote, ‘be where our feet are.’” She also spoke on their attitude going into the week; “We need to focus on the present and the upcoming games, not just worry about the future.” They are taking the week game by game and are focusing on getting the wins they need to get back to the postseason.

When describing the season in one word, the answers were growth, perseverance, and spirit. Though rough at times, the team has clicked when it matters most. They are playing their best volleyball as of late and are anticipating some tough games in the next few days, but their eyes are set on the playoffs.

JV had a great season full of growth and development, and as said by senior Paulina Escobar “It was a great last season.” Their season is over and they are eager to see how Varsity does in the upcoming games and postseason.
